The Harris Tweed Story

The story of Harris Tweed is that of a remote island community that lies off the Western coast of Scotland. From time immemorial the inhabitants of the island of Harris have made cloth entirely by hand, spinning, dying and weaving the fabric in their own homes.

The Trademark

The Harris Tweed trademark was registered in 1910 to safeguard the quality of genuine Harris Tweed, and distinguish it from the mass of mill-spun tweed in production on the mainland of Scotland. Inspectors were employed by the Harris Tweed Association to authenticate and stamp the trademark on all genuine Harris Tweed.

Harris Tweed Today

At one time over 5,000 men and women made their living weaving Harris Tweed. Today there are fewer than 200 weavers. Sustaining the Harris Tweed industry has become critical in protecting the cultural identity of the Outer Hebrides and in providing economic value to the Islands.

Hand Made in Toronto, Canada

This collection of hats and bags are made by hand in Toronto, Canada, using genuine Harris Tweed and full-grain Italian leather.

Sublime Colours. Exquisite Textures

The collection showcases the sublime colours and exquisite texture that define the work of Donald John MacKay, a second generation weaver of authentic Harris Tweed, on the Isle of Harris, in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.
